The family of a 7-year-old who was mauled to death by several dogs near New Braunfels almost two weeks ago is speaking out for the first time.
The boy's father wants to ensure other families don't have to experience his same heartache.
"He loved to come up to me every time I'd see him," said the boy's uncle, Vance Dawson. ("He'd) come up to me and start punching me and then give me a big old hug and say, 'I missed you, Bubba. I missed you, Bubba.'"
The energetic and dynamic Gaege Ramirez died about two weeks ago. He was in the backyard of a Canyon Lake house, near New Braunfels, when he was attacked by several dogs.
The Comal County Sheriff's Office found the boy covered in wounds and several mixed breed dogs on the property. Gaege died at a San Antonio hospital.
COMMENTS..........
please clarfiy how nondescript dogs killed this boy.. Why is the breed not given? These were all chihuahuas right? WRONG. Honor the boy and his life with the whole truth. All dogs can not and do not kill in this manner.

They were all lab/boxer mixes.... They were family pets. The owners have a child of their own and Gaege had played at that house with those dogs numerous times... ANY dog, no matter the breed, how the owners raise them can turn in a second. This proves it. They were not vicious dogs that didn't know Gaege, Gaege was out there for only a few mins when this happened and btw, the police did NOT "find him" his mother did! Gaege was one of a kind and the sweetest, most well mannered, polite kids I've ever known. This was just a horrible accident....

Jessica Patton 'Lab mix' means in fact that they were pit bull mixes. Thank you for informing us of this.

Don't allow your kids at a home with these circumstances present: Dogbitelaw.com has developed a 6-point “dog attack danger scale” to tell you which dogs you and your children should stay away from. The presence of any one factor indicates danger, while two or more indicates a dog that should be avoided at all costs. Here’s what to look out for:
•A dog in its own yard, and no master present. In 2012, at least 5 of the 37 fatal dog attacks happened in this manner.
•Pit bull, Rottweiler, Akita or Chow. Most fatal dog attacks are by pit bulls. To date in 2013, 13 out of 14 fatalities have been c

The only way to protect the lives of future children is when the parents of this child publicly tell what the 'breeds' of dogs were. 'Lab - boxer mix' doesn't cut it, because that is still hiding the fact that these were pit bull type dogs. Until these parents are willing to work hard to keep other children from dying by the type of dog that killed theirs, they deserve no help or sympathy. They are still putting the lives of pit bull type dogs above the lives of children even after they lost their own child. That makes it scandalous that they're now playing the victim and asking other people -- parents of children -- to pay their way.
