Jack Hen well they may have but like i said i have never in my 59 years on this planet heard of any breed but the pit bull breed killing anyone . with them its a everday thing to hear of them killing or putting kids in the hospitals everywhere.

"This idea that aggression can be traced back to specific breeds is the folklore of a criminal subculture. This is not an idea that exists in science."

  • Susan DeVilder I find it fascinating that the first man saw banning pit bulls as an intrusion, yet he doesn't seem to grap the reality that pit bulls attacking and killing our children and our pets is the greatest intrusion of them all.

  • Susan DeVilder And the government bans unsafe things all of the time. It's not an intrusion, it is the actual role that the government plays in promoting public safety and welfare. And this from a magazine that is titled Reason? Rubbish.

  • Susan DeVilder I don't know if anyone caught it, but the other day the Huffpost ran a piece about a pit bull and actually mentioned AFF in the article. It's the first time I believe I have ever seen them do that.

  • Nicole Marie actually there was a very scientific article that identified a gene for over-the-top aggression in dogs. I have it bookmarked somewhere. that dog "expert" is a quack. selective breeding wouldn't have gone on for centuries if it didn't work lady

  • Joy Bruce These people would put every breeder of every species of animal out of business if what they are saying were true! Humans genetically select specific characteristics that when done over and over become set in DNA.

  • Mary Brady Honeycutt We have two hunting dogs and a herding dog, so we thought we would turn our Shih Tzu into one or the other so they will have a little companion to go with them. She loves to play fetch so we thought she would make a great retreiver of birds. So far we arent having much luck. Does anyone know why? I guess we are going to try taking her to the cow pasture and try her herding skills now. Wish us luck!

  • Jeffrey Sloan The idea that behaviors have no connection to genetics is a sort of fantasy that can only be indulged in by those who are completely ignorant of the most basic science.

  • Jack Henthe sad truth about people like this guy doing the story is if a pit killed his own kid he would blame it on something the kid did to desever to die . my out look on pits are if no pit bull had ever killed a child ever and i thought it was a chance one would some day kill only one child they should all be killed to make sure that one and only child would not be killed by a pit . but as we all know there are hundreds of kids every year killed by these dogs no matter if they are rasied in loving homes or anywhere else .i have heard from so many pitbull promoters that amny breeds of dogs bite and some more offten thatn the pit bulls . but even if thta mite be so at the age of 59 in my entire life i hav enever heard of any breed of dog but the pit bull killing a human! and i have heard at least once every week or so on the newes of someone child being killed by a pit bull . so what this guy in the story here is saying is far from the truth about the breed . what a cant see is with all the hundreds of breeds of dogs that dont attack and kill everyday why do the pit owners only want the one breed that does kill on a daily bases??? there are many breeds of bull dogs that look very simular to the pit bull but are not aggressive nor do they attcak and kill kids . the people who own pits have to have a reason to want the only breed that kills . and i think that reason is they hate kids and want them for their ability to kill kids! if not why do they own them???what other thing are they good for?? yes they are good for dog fighting but all who own them say thats wrong and they dont fight them . so the only other thing they are good for is killing kids . there is no doubt in my mind that these are the same people you hear about each year at halloween passing out candy with razor blades , needels , and possin in it!

  • Cindy Lorenz Unfortunately, Jack Hen, a few other breeds have killed humans, including the Rottweiler, Mastiff (some stats also include wolf hybrids but I don't consider them domestic dogs) But only a small percentage compared to Pits.

  • Jeffrey Sloan If you eliminate all pit bull type dogs, the number of human disfigurements and deaths would be back to 1960s levels, and the horrific mauling of innocent animals would decrease to a tiny percentage of what it currently is.

  • Thomas McCartneyThe following is a list of the top 10 dog breeds involved in dog attacks in the U.S. and Canada involving humans from September 1982 to December 31, 2013, based on a larger table compiled by Merritt Clifton, former editor of Animal People, an animal rights charity/news group. Clifton now is the editor of Animals 24-7.

A Bullmastiff is considered a pit bull type dog and a pit bull mix between a pit bull and a mastiff and is 40% pit bull.

Breed ****** Attacks doing bodily harm ****** Maimed ****** Deaths
    1. Pit bull **********2792 ***********************677 **********263
    2. Rottweiler *******514 ************************294 **********81
    3. Bull Mastiff ******105 ************************61 ***********15

The report states that the numbers are compiled from press accounts dating to 1982. It only includes attacks by dogs of clearly identified breed type or ancestry, as designated by animal control officers or others with evident expertise, which have been kept as pets.

All accounts are cross-checked by date, location and identity of the victim, according to the report.
Attacks by police dogs, guard dogs and dogs trained specifically to fight are not included in the report.

  • Julie Edwards-Matanga When "haters" isn't enough to keep you silent, now anyone who dares to suggest that pit bulls are inherently dangerous may have their ideas labled as "folk lore" and be linked to a "criminal subculture".
